Key Verse

Matthew 26:42 “He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.”

Introduction: The only reason why people are unable to experience miracles, signs and wonders in their lives is because they played it safe with plan A, plan B and plan C in place; just in case the first two didn’t work.

There is nothing wrong in planning, but not seeking the will of God means that you never trusted God.

What should we trust? – God’s will.

Romans 12:2Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God’.

This verse clearly tells us that God has a will for us. And it is our duty to know what that good will is. In fact, God has not planned mediocrity for you but has grandiose plans specially crafted for you. They are so great, that when they happen, it seems like a miracle to others because they cannot even imagine of any such thing happening in their life.

Gods thoughts are deep.

Psalms 92:5 ‘The works of God are great and His thoughts are very deep’.

Gods works are great because His thoughts are very deep. In order to make great and visible things on the outside, you need to dig deep and lay strong foundation in the inside. That is what the above verse is showing us. His thoughts are so deep that when they take roots in the depth of our hearts, it effects our thinking and change our speech. Your ability to perceive things depends on your ability to see, think and discern clearly. If your understanding is shallow you can never reach the depths where the revelation of God is laid hidden for you. Infact the visible top results are a result of the mammoth invisible base on which the top stands aloof. If you look at the floating ice berg in the ocean, you only see the top 10% of the mass of ice, the remaining 90% lies beneath it in the ocean unseen. The important point to notice here is that the freshly formed ice is on the top. That is to say, the oldest and earliest ice always remains at the bottom, mostly unnoticed; but without which, the top can never form and appear. So we should always strive to lay a solid foundation which is based on the Word of God.

God’s thoughts are high.

Isaiah 55:9 ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’

The thoughts of Man are earthly which are limited to earthly elements and are discerned with the aid of the five physical senses. The Bible tells us that things that we see are not formed by the visible things (Hebrews 11:3). But the thoughts of man are limited to earth’s atmosphere. So in order to have a better picture, you need to raise above the earths atmosphere. Only then, a man can comprehend the unseen and hidden treasures of wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God’s thoughts. God’s thoughts are so different from our’s, His thoughts are as high as heavens. Therefore to have a glimpse of the heavenly thoughts, you need to ascend to the heavenly realm.

What is God thinking about?

Jeremiah 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’

Isn’t is nice to have someone to think about you? We all know that our parents and our spouse always have best thoughts for us. They can never think anything evil for their kids or spouse irrespective of their abilities or goodness. And we also know that no matter how good they may think about us they have but very little influence over our situations or circumstances that we run through. And we also know and have many examples before us that may contradict the above assumption about parents and spouse. But we all have without contradiction one person that can never think evil for us- God! And the good news is that He has every influence and control over everything that we go through in life.

Well, God is thinking about you. He is not just thinking about you but the Bible tells that His thoughts are of peace and there is no evil in them. He wants to give you an expected(glorious) end (Destiny). When we have God, thinking good about us, who can spoil our destiny? There is no force that can challenge His authority or spoil His good will except you. Yes, no matter how good plans God may have toward you, He is not going to force implement them over you without your consent or willingness to receive His grace and benevolence. Its up to you whether to receive or reject. But remember, when you reject His plans, you are on your own futile plans which sometimes work and fail often. The onus is on you!

God is looking to bless you.

2 Chronicles 16:9 ‘For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.’

God is attracted towards a perfect heart. His eyes are searching for a perfect heart. He is looking for opportunities to bless the person with a perfect heart, to show Himself strong on his behalf. A perfect heart is a state of mind where you put all your trust on God and not rely on your strength alone. A perfect heart always aligns itself in line with the Word of God and endeavours to do His commandments. A perfect heart longs after God and strives to know the will and plans of God.

Human plans vs Gods plans:

There is huge difference between God’s plans and Human plans. Just look at the human plans: The infrastructures such as roads, buildings, means of transportation, water resources management, space explorations etc. They all have many flaws even after careful research and planning. So often our aeroplanes, trains, vehicles meet with accidents because of technical, mechanical, human errors and cause havoc. Space missions fail, buildings, bridges collapse, dams still could not contain and becomes cause of floods, roads still have faults, there are many corrections being made and still new errors appear. There is always scope for betterment and correction when it comes to the plans of man.

Gods plans: Look at the creation, God planned and executed his creation by his words and the worlds were formed by his power thousands and thousands of years ago and yet we don’t hear that a planet has crashed into other by mistake. Even after many many centuries, day and night occur at the same speed, seasons never skipped its turn, life cycle never discontinued. The plan of God still holds good. What He created in the beginning still holds good and what He commanded in the beginning still continues.

Gods will may seem difficult.

The night before Jesus Christ was crucified, He took his disciples to the garden of Gethsemane where he prayed like this, ‘O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt’ (Matthew 26:39). Here we can clearly find two different wills, one that of Jesus and the other of God the Father. Jesus willed that the cup be passed from him, but the bible tells that thus it behoved Christ to suffer (Luke 24:46) which is the will of God the Father. It is interesting to note that had Jesus struck hard with his will, our deliverance would have still remained elusive. But thank God, Jesus submitted himself to the will of God and went through that great ordeal of suffering to bring salvation to every one who believes. Gods will may seem difficult in the beginning, but when you submit yourself completely to the will of God, it will pave way for beautiful things and wonderful ways. Otherwise who would have ever thought that the dreadful cross would become symbol of hope and faith and of redemption and freedom and of eternal salvation?

The key to success.

The key to a successful, happy, joyful and fulfilled life lies in one simple thing- your obedience to the will of God. Every time you have to make a decision, and every time you are at the cross roads, there will always be a voice, a temptation and an attempt to take you away from the will of God. The devil never wants you to choose God’s will because basically what he wills for you is opposite to God’s will; bad, unacceptable and imperfect.  The will of God is good, acceptable and perfect. Good in the sense that there is nothing bad in it and is completely free from any form of evil. And while walking in it you will not be ashamed at all, rather your will endure its hardships if any with a smile. Acceptable means that the will of God is nothing that is not fit for you, you will not be weary walking in it. Infact doing that will is more enjoyable for you than anything else and that it is as a play but no more work for you and so you are never tired doing it. Perfect means that there is nothing more cut out will than this. It has no imperfections.

No matter how successful a man may be in this world and in the sight of men, if he is not walking in the will of God and if it is not what God willed for him, at the end of the day there is sorrow and grief even at the peak of success. But the will of God is so good, so acceptable and so perfect that there can be nothing more satisfying and nothing more enjoyable than it and there can no more improvements or alterations be made to it.

So let this be your prayer: O Father, Let Thine will be done in my life and not my will but let your will alone be done and accomplished in my life and in everything that concerns me. In Jesus name Amen.
